The Changing Shops of Wells in Photographs was an exhibition held at Wells & Mendip Museum between April and June 2022, in partnership with the Project Factory, Wells City Archives, Somerset Film and Wells Civic Society.
Based on the Simes Map showing the heart of the city in 1735, the photographs came from the Phillips Collection held by the museum, the Patrick Brown collection recently donated to the City Archive showing the buildings in the 1970s, and the Millennium photographs commissioned by the Wells Civic Society.
The photographic collection will be used in future outreach learning with schools, residential homes, history groups and researchers.
This 15-minute film comprises three pieces where locals share their memories of the shops of Wells.
The film was made by Somerset Film and funded by NLHF Search & Learn.
