SCHOOLS LEARNING

________

The museum has a learning programme for young people, teachers, and home educators. It is delivered through visits to the museum galleries, hands-on sessions with collections and learning resources, and with loans boxes for use in schools.

The museum supports local schools in teaching the National Curriculum through museum enrichment of their topics of study. The programme aims to increase knowledge and understanding of topics of study, and improve enquiry and awareness skills.

The Romans on Mendip School Workshop

Booking information – a school workshop for KS2 primary children, supporting delivery of the national History curriculum - The Romans in Britain.

Our workshop modules use local history and real archaeological evidence to help pupils discover:

  1. Why the Romans came to Britain — and why the Mendip Hills were so important

  2. How Roman settlement changed local communities and daily life

  3. What “Romano-British” life looked like in practice

  4. How archaeology helps us understand the past

  5. The lasting legacy of the Romans in our region today

To book, in the first instance please contact the museum on 01458 831197 or at admin@wellsmuseum.org.uk

Cost: £5-7 per pupil (all accompanying adults free), depending on workshop length (1.5 hours - 2.5 hours).  The cost includes access to the entire museum as well as the workshop and materials.

Children will work in four-five groups assumes a maximum class size of 32. To get the most from your visit, please organise children into groups before your workshop begins. Each group will require support from one adult. Two teachers from the museum will deliver the workshops and one of these adults will be assigned to one of the groups, the remaining volunteers will need to be provided by your school. Recommended ratio: one adult for every six children so that the children are well supported.

Eating and drinking is not permitted in the museum apart from the school lunch room or garden. The school lunch room is FREE for schools attending workshops. Please ask when you make your booking.
