Wells and Mendip Museum are always looking for volunteers to help with all aspects of museum life. This includes everything from reception desk duty to gardening, from marketing to curatorial. Volunteer Positions Available
Marketing
If you have some spare time and would like to be an essential part of our museum, then you could be just the volunteer we are looking for to organise and implement our marketing and advertising needs.
You will need to be enthusiastic, organised and easy to get along with, preferably with some experience of marketing or advertising. You will be helping to promote the museum and all of its activities, which is challenging as museum funds are limited. You will be working under the supervision of the Museum Administrator and tasks would include creating posters and publicity material (some computer literacy is needed), writing press releases and promoting our room hire facilities. All new ideas are very welcome and the hours you work with us are totally flexible, so whatever time you could spare would be greatly appreciated.
Wells and Mendip Museum is a unique place to volunteer and if you like a ‘project’ to get your teeth into, this role may be ideal.
Front Desk
We are always in need of volunteers to welcome visitors and to handle the entrance fees and shop purchases. You will be the public face of the museum and so, should enjoy interacting with the general public. You will receive full training and would be given a regular shift to cover (usually two and a half hours every week or fortnight, depending on your availability).
Curatorial
There is a variety of curatorial duties, lead by our Museum Curator which need volunteers to help, although volunteers with experience of collection management are favoured.
Garden
The museum is currently developing its garden, so if you have green fingers and some spare time, please get in touch to be part of our gardening team.
Library
We have an excellent reference library, which needs volunteers who are interested in research. You will be given a regular shift to be in the library and carry out duties for the Honorary Librarian and also help members of the public with their research.
Exhibitions and Events
We try and have a full exhibition program, mostly made up of outside organisations coming in and displaying material. If you have experience in exhibiting or organising events, we need volunteers to bring in new ideas and help carry them out. You will be working under the supervision of the Administrator and alongside other volunteers.
